Can you tell me what the memorial that stands in the little park near the corner of Stroud Rd and Calton Rd is for?
ken.h@

The little park is called Sydenham Gardens and the memorial is dedicated to Mr Thomas Nelson Foster who was a local businessman at the turn of the 20th century. It was commissioned by his wife and was originally a drinking fountain and horse-trough. It was moved from the junction of Bristol Rd, Stroud Rd and Southgate Street to the gardens in 1923.

Hi. When did Morelands start making matches? Both my grandparents on my mothers side worked there many years ago.
Carol@

Samuel Moreland started the company in 1867.

Really appreciate your website, being one who lived in Gloucester as a kid during the 50s and 60s.
Just out of curiosity, do you have any photos of Longlevens from the era when the Oxstalls estate was coming into being?
Nigel@ (Denmark)

Not at the moment, Nigel, but friends and I are always looking for old photos. I’m sure we will find a few in the future. Meanwhile, if anyone has a picture of Oxstalls during the mid 50s please let me know.

I love this site and have been a fan of it for some time now. What has happend to some of the other old pictures you had on the ‘other’ site?
Sue@

They will appear over time, Sue. You may have noticed there are already some photographs on here that did not appear on the old site.

I have just found this website. I left Gloucester in the 70s and looking at the pictures I wonder where the past thirty years have gone!
Thank you for rekindling some very happy memories.
Norris@

Thank you for the Railway Selection of pictures they really are great. Also thanks for the links to other Glos transport sites. I would never have found them without your help.
I think this is a great site and I really mean that.
Brian@

Our pleasure, Brian.
