Love your site, pity there are not more photos available from the late 50 early 60’s.
Especially Linden Road Secondary School which I attended until 1963.
My family lived for a time in the Prefabs in Tuffley next to the railway line. This was in the time of the Steam Trains
and along with my two brothers I would spend many a Summer day watching the trains pass by waving to the
engine driver we were just like the railway children.
One day the Royal Train passed through and that was really exciting. But the best part of each day was rushing out to

catch a glimpse of the Royal Mail train that speed through at 8.20pm each evening on it’s way to London.
Gloucester at this time was much different with many country lanes to walk down safely without the risk of cars. During the school summer holidays I liked nothing better that to walk with my Gran from Gloucester to Sandhurst to visit my
Aunt and Uncle picking wild flowers on the way.
Oh such happy carefree days - I now live in Scotland but return as often as I can to visit family that still live in Gloucester
but on each visit a little bit more’s changed.
I hope in time someone will find some more photos that I can get nostalgic over.
Keep up the good work!

New pictures are added regularly, Margaret, so it’s always worth a return visit.

Re Prefabs. I remember them well Margaret! had many a happy time in that area as a teenager, who knows our paths may have crossed!

I’d just like to thank whoever is responsible for this website. I love looking at old photographs of Gloucester and find the 1900 section fascinating and haven’t times changed over the past 100 years?

I must agree with Phillip. This is indeed a wonderfully nostalgic look at Gloucester in the past. My favourite part is the 1950s and 60s as it brings back such memories.

Thank you for a great website - as a 40-something year old son-of-gloucester this has been a great elbow-jogger of what I can remember as a youngster being dragged around town on a Saturday morning shopping excursion. Could you please direct me/explain exactly where Exhibition Street was, somewhere off of Llanthony Rd but I cannot find any map of the period showing it - any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks indeed Ken@

Exhibition Street, Gloucester ran off Southgate St near Feilding and Platt and meet Llanthony Rd.

Have just found your site what a great find, full of nostalgia recognizing the many references to schools street names and particularly Fielding & Platt where I served an Indentured apprenticeship.
I read references to photos how does one get to see your archives?

We’re pleased you enjoyed your visit, but sorry to tell you that the private collection of photographs are not available to view personally - hence this website.

Hi there. I’m writing to commend you on your website. I was born in Gloucester in 1942 and left for Canada in 1966. I just stumbled upon it and the nostalgia is overwhelming. I’ll be keeping an eye on it as well as making frequent visits. Thanks for the memories!

You’re welcome, Dave, and thank you.
