Left.
This is The Oxbode on a Thursday
afternoon in the 1960s.

For those who don’t know and may
wonder why the city centre looks so
quiet, it is because Thursday was a
day when most, if not all, shops
closed to give members of staff
a rest.

The camera is looking west toward
Northgate Street.

Right.
Kings Square also on a Thursday
afternoon.

The camera is situated outside the
the Post Office looking north
toward the Bus Station.

Left.
Brunswick Road with the library on the
right of the picture.

This photograph was probably taken in
1967/8 at the start of the Eastgate
redevelopments when a large chunk
of the city centre was vandalized in the
name of progress.
